‘YUJ’, which means to join or to unite. it is an ancient discipline, it helps
to transform and unite our mind, soul and body. It is not just a form of
exercise but it is a process to develop the sense of oneness with nature, world
and ourselves. It helps in connecting our body with our minds in the real
sense. Keeping the importance of yoga in our lives, International yoga is
observed on the 21st June across globe every year.
Origin and
Significance
Yoga is supposed to be more than 5000 years
old, the prime minister of India, Shree Narendra Modi also practices yoga
everyday and first proposed the idea of celebrating a day as the international
yoga day in his speech at the UN general assembly. Thereafter, the united
national declared 21st June as the international yoga day. The date
21st June was selected as it is the summer peak or the longest day of the
year in the northern hemisphere. The day already is of great importance in many
countries. On this day, the sun moves from north to south. This transition
period is a good time for meditation and yogic practices. It is also believed
that on this day Adiyogi turned
towards south and looked at the seven sages also known as the Saptarishis. These Saptarishis were the first disciples of yoga and contributed in
spreading this science across the globe.
